This fall, we’re kicking off People-Powered 2026: GET FREE! by gathering with people who make The LP community what it is: our past People Movers, alumni, artists, neighbors, and friends.
This year’s GET FREE! theme is rooted in a question Risë Wilson reflected on at last fall’s Echoes of the Seed event: “How do we get free?” For Risë, the answer became The Laundromat Project.
For us, GET FREE! is a refusal of erasure. It’s an invitation to imagine what liberation can look like in our communities—and to remember that we have always created pathways toward freedom through our voices, our relationships, our creativity, and our collective power. From freedom songs to open mics to spoken word performances that turn a room into a movement, our communities have long used creativity as a tool for connection, organizing, and possibility.
And getting free isn’t something we do alone. It happens through people moving people.
We’re hosting two special workshops this September to get us thinking, making, and organizing ahead of this year’s People-Powered campaign. Join us on Saturday, September 19 or Tuesday, September 22 for an evening of conversation, creativity, and community.
Together, we’ll hear from a current Create Change artist about community needs assessment and what it looks like to build alongside communities. Then we’ll get hands-on and make our own GET FREE! zines—creative tools to share with your people, spark conversation, and invite others into the movement.
Because People-Powered has always been about people moving people, we’ll also spend time learning more about becoming a People Mover this year. Whether you’ve done it before or you’re thinking about jumping in for the first time, you’ll learn how to use your voice, relationships, and networks to help uplift The LP’s mission and values—and help us reach our $53,000 campaign goal.
