Project: Bed-Stuy Black August
Bed-Stuy Black August is a series of community events commemorating and celebrating the resilience, resistance, and contributions of the Black community worldwide. During this month, activities will be held to engage community members of all ages. The goal is to encourage participants to engage with each other, learn from one another, and commit to continuing the work of uplifting and empowering the Black community beyond Black August.
Bio:
Jayde Barton is an educator, community organizer, and mental health advocate based in Bed-stuy Brooklyn. During the pandemic, Jayde relocated to Brooklyn, NY, where she began establishing herself as a creative. Her work has included therapeutic art & yoga gatherings, group therapy through games, and the creation of a group art exhibit entitled “Let Black Folks Feel” at Heath Gallery in Harlem. Jayde strives to curate community dialogues that center transformation, reflection, and calls to action.
