2021 Creative Action Fund | Memorial Day X

Eric Garner, Sean Bell, Akai Gurley, Amadou Diallo, Deborah Danner: these are only some of the recent victims of unarmed or non-threatening civilians who were killed during encounters with the New York City Police Department. ‘Memorial Day X’ is an expanded media work that seeks to remember/memorialize these victims through:

  1. Placing small topographic map sculptures based on the location of the deaths of some of these people at or near the site where these killings occurred.
  2. A live audiovisual performance (streamed through Zoom, Instagram and Twitch) which remixes images and sounds of resistance to police brutality and unjustified killings.
