Adriel Michelle Barnett

Adriel Michelle (b. Brooklyn, NY) is a Jamaican-American photo-based artist whose work explores identity, heritage, mythology, and belonging within the Afro-Caribbean diaspora.  In 2024, she completed the One-Year Certificate program in Creative Practice at The School of International Center of Photography, in order to focus on impactful photographic storytelling. That same year, she was a finalist in the Lucie Foundation’s Heritage Awards (Black and White Category). Her recent work on family has been included in group exhibitions, and featured in The Guardian. Her book, Her Odyssey of Light, was recently published by Snap Collective and her ongoing project, For You Infinitely is set to be published in ‘Mothering and Mother(Work) in the Times of Black Lives Matter’ published by Demeter Press. Michelle is an active Teacher Assistant for the International Center of Photography’s Teen Academy: Imagemakers One Year Program 2025.
