Meter & Light is an installation enacting, in miniature, the interlocking rhythms of time in Muslim life. Zain Alam will host regular open studio hours for visitors to engage with his research, composition, and editing processes. He will also host a night of coastal music curated from around the Islamic world, sharing the inspiration he’s found in the continuities–and differences–among coastal sound cultures. His residency will conclude with a performance activating the first two pieces of the Meter & Light series.
