April Liberation Series: Community Beatmaking Session I

Facilitated by Mz. Icar

First Fridays, or Liberation Series, is a monthly, artist-led, community-building gathering hosted in our Bed-Stuy storefront. Each season is guided by an artist working at the intersection of culture, imagination, and collective power.

Beat Cypher: Community Beatmaking Session invites participants to become co-producers, using drum machines and collected sounds to build new beats. This session blends traditional rhythms with contemporary beat-making in a collaborative cypher, focusing on process and collective soundscape creation over a polished outcome.

For this session, we’ll be joined by Bronx-based producer, MC, and teaching artist Isaac Sawyer!

Isaac Sawyer is a Las Vegas-born, Bronx-based creative and founder of Isaac Sawyer Music & Arts. With 25+ years in HipHop culture, he’s built community through music, visual art, and education. He’s toured nationwide, released independent projects, performed with major and underground artists, and led workshops and performances at BAM and beyond. His work has been featured in exhibitions like “Visible Planets,” and he teaches youth across NYC through organizations like Arts Connection, DreamYard, and Carnegie Hall, where he shares his expertise in visual arts, music production, and HipHop history.

This is your sign to gather with The LP, reflect with others, and co-create rhythms that will stretch your imagination beyond the limits of time and space!

Free food and refreshments will be provided.
