2023 People-Powered Challenge

An LP community call for participation and celebration! 

The Laundromat Project’s annual peer-to-peer fundraising campaign organizes the collective power of the people. This year, Get Organized: Culture. Power. Movement. will give a historical grounding in the legacy of artistic traditions of communities of color that have inspired and driven resistance and change. Over the course of ten days, we will explore how today’s cultural producers of color continue to move us toward collective liberation through their art and activism. The LP’s artistic community inspires us daily in how their explorations, reflections, and interventions provide a blueprint for a better future. We are calling on our community to help drive resources to amplify artists’ voices to facilitate transformative change, which will become more urgent over the next year as our national political landscape grows ever more volatile and potentially further disenfranchises and harms our communities.

We will launch our 2023 People-Powered Challenge—a 10-day (Oct 23 – Nov 1) peer-to-peer campaign with a fundraising goal of $70k to support artists spearheading social change for our collective liberation.

Want to get involved?

This annual peer-to-peer fundraising campaign organizes the collective power of the people. Your participation is vital to support initiatives like our residency for community-attuned creative projects by artists of color based in Bed-Stuy, grants for local artists to create projects for the community, our fellowship for artists across the City who are interested in developing a socially-engaged creative practice and a diverse range of community programs like sidewalk workshops and public activations. People Movers help us reach our collective goal by committing to asking 15 people or more (friends, family, neighbors, peers, etc.) to give at least $15 or more each during the 10 days of the campaign. Click the link below to become a fundraiser and get started.
