Dolls and Locs: Crafting Beauty from the Center

In celebration of Black History Month, The LP is launching a three-part conversation series in partnership with local stakeholders and businesses in Bed-Stuy. The events will feature the voices of artists and community leaders whose work has made impacts across Black history, art, identity, business, and social justice.

Join us on Saturday, February 18 for a doll-making workshop where participants can make, style, and accessorize dolls in community! The LP is collaborating with the Brooklyn Public Library–Macon Branch and local artist, Shaquora R’ Bey, to explore themes of African American identity during the artmaking workshop. Shaquora will guide participants in the use of dollmaking as an interactive medium for reflection on Black hair, beauty, and identity. Macon Library will curate and provide a selection of books and cultural resources centered around African American identity. Make a doll with us to celebrate Black identity and Black history month with your neighbors!
