Join us for our next Open Studio and enjoy an evening of poetry and storytelling celebrating the rich and resilient spirit of Bed-Stuy.
Solaris J. Capehart is a Liberian poet and abolitionist educator based in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Black, queer, and concerned with freedom ~ they use storytelling as a catalyst for conversation, education, and community organizing. Before teaching 7th grade reading in Crown Heights for four years, Solaris traveled the country sharing stories and leading workshops at various high schools, universities, and organizations ~ nurturing the imagination of young people on topics of race, gender, and our collective liberation.
