Amelia Brod
Amelia Brod is the Development Manager at The Laundromat Project. Prior to The LP, she was an Arts Specialist at Kickstarter, where she helped artists and institutions build sustainable support and community. Before that she worked on exhibitions and programs at SculptureCenter, Creative Time, and ArtTable. She also curates independently, including Order My Steps at BKSD (2018), and holds an MA in Curatorial Practice from the California College of the Arts.

What The LP value do you most relate to and why?
This is a tough questions for me, because I connect with so many of LP’s values and view them all as essential and interrelated. However, if I had to choose one, it would be “Nurture Creativity” because this has been integral to my work in community organizing, development, curating, and arts education. Beyond anything, I believe in the value of creativity to generate alternative thought and solution, to build community, and to open up complex conversations, which I believe are essential—now more than ever.

I embarrassed to say that my favorite film is 10 Things I Hate About You!

Can you tell us about an artist or project that has inspired you?
I am inspired by Tania Bruguera’s Association of Arte Útil. This is an evolving archive of work that “proposes new uses for art within society” and “uses artistic thinking to challenge the field within which it operates.”
In what neighborhood do you currently live in?
Crown Heights/ Prospect Heights
In your opinion, why does art matter?
Art is alternative thought and critical thinking. It has the potential to create social impact and generate much needed dialogue. Art is essential to democracy!
