Greening the City is a festival focused on environmental awareness, urban beautification, and wellness. Click here to see the photos!

 

Free and open to the general public, Greening the City addresses environmentalism with a down-to-earth approach, providing New Yorkers of all ages with the opportunity to learn everyday ways to make eco-friendly choices that are fun and affordable.

 

It all happened as a part of the 11th Annual Fish Parade and Summer Festival on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 12 to 5 PM, at Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point, the Bronx:

 

12-1 PM

Cooking Demo with Rosalba Lopez Ramírez of the BLK Projek & Kelly St. Garden

 

1-2 PM

Community Gardens: the Nuts and Bolts with Karen Washington

 

2-3 PM

Paper Bead Jewelry Making with artist Rajeeyah Finnie-Myers

 

3-4 PM

Make woven planters from recycled bottles with artist Jasmine Murrell

 

Ongoing activities:

  • Zumba classes with Harlem Wellness Center
  • Greening the Future, a participatory performance by Grow Green Ambassadors, inviting community members to envision a greener tomorrow for their neighborhoods
  • Coloring pages produced by Harlem Grown
  • Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt
  • Toy making for Toddlers
  • Face-Painting
