Meet Taja Lindley, 2014 Fellow

Meet our 2014 Fellows!

Please tell us of an artist, curator, activist, or project that has influenced you or inspired you?

Wangechi Mutu: her use of the female body and mixed-media to explore globalization, consumerism and power is breathtaking. Her work inspires me to take more risks with my visual art collage.

Please tell us about a place in your neighborhood that is personally meaningful to you, and why?

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It’s free on Tuesdays. In the spring and summer it’s a ritual of mine to go there on Tuesdays to soak in the sun, photograph the plants, take self-portrait videos, and journal. It’s where I clear my head, connect to the Earth and myself, get grounded and am reminded of my love for nature. I get inspired by all of the textures and colors.

What is your favorite book, film or song about NYC?

Coming to America.

It wasn’t all about NYC but our city played a major part in the movie. It’s one of my all time favorite films.

If you have an idea of a blog post or topic you’d like to contribute to our blog, please share below!

I don’t have a personal blog but I do write for other blogs as a member of Echoing Ida. I list my written pieces on my website:
