Hunts Point/Longwood
As a 2016 Artist-in-Residence, Misra Walker used a coco helado cart, an icon in the Bronx Latino community, to document the impact of climate change on communities of color like Hunts Point/Longwood. Coco Climate Cart combined statistics with memories from community members of how climate change has impacted them, whether in the Bronx or back home in the Caribbean. The fully functioning cart used a pollution monitor to track the quality of air and temperature in the neighborhood and mapped out changes occurring over time. Residents interacted by sharing a climate or weather-related memory in exchange for a free coco helado.
