Sara Washington Goggin

Sara Washington Goggin (she/her) is a quilter, textile artist, media producer, and mother of two, based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work lives at the intersection of traditional American patchwork and improvisation, informed by the legacy of Black quilters who stitched for beauty, survival, connection, and care. She sees quilting as both a creative practice and ancestral work.  With over a decade in documentary video production, storytelling across mediums is at the heart of everything she does.

Quilts for Reproductive Justice: Community quilts for care, connection, and Black futures

Quilts for Reproductive Justice brings community members together to create quilts that honor Black people and support reproductive justice through mutual aid. Through cohort-based workshops, participants learn foundational quilting skills while engaging in facilitated conversations about community care and justice. Together, they will contribute to larger community quilts. Alongside this collective work, Sara creates her own quilts as offerings to the project. Completed quilts are raffled to raise funds for doulas, midwives, abortion access, lactation support, and other resources for birthing people of color in New York City.
