Project: Bed-Stuy Walls
Bed-Stuy Walls is a beautification and engaging community project that aims to beautify, connect and unite the community thought the power of public art. It was founded in 2022 by mural artists Miki Mu and her husband Frankie Velez, art curator. This mural festival is not just a beautifying project (although this itself has been shown to be providing benefits on the community). Moreover, this is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the culture of Brooklyn and of Bed-Stuy. The power of public art can lift up the spirit of the community and create spaces where people can gather, connect to each other and open up conversations. This is also a platform where local business gets to know each other and build future collaborations. Bed-Stuy Walls has been proving already to be a learning opportunity for kids and young adults in the area. Mural art is also a tool to spread awareness about the many issues that affect us all.
