House is Liberation
Project: House is Liberation
Imagine a block party meets a protest meets a fundraiser. House is Liberation is a house music party for all ages with local DJs, home-cooked Indonesian food, and an outdoor vendor market featuring neighborhood artisans and mutual aid groups. All proceeds from the event and its vendors go directly to local and international mutual aid causes. Our last event raised over $12,000 to split between families in Gaza and veteran Black Panther Kamau Sadiki’s return home. This total is completely derived from optional entry donations, raffle tickets, food sales, and vendors. With an average donation of $20, our event showcases the power of community coming together under joy. For our first event in March 2025, the DJs, venue, and caterer graciously offered their services for free. This second time around, we’d like to secure funding to fairly compensate these folks for their time.
Bio:
We are a collective of house music lovers in pursuit of liberation. We strive to honor house music’s legacy as a Black music genre rooted in liberation. To do so, we curate intergenerational, multiracial dance parties, called House is Liberation, that center BIPOC joy, while inspiring collective advocacy for oppressed peoples here and across the globe. At our last event, we raised over $12,000 to split between families in Gaza and veteran New York Black Panther Kamau Sadiki’s return home from prison.
