The Reality of a Future

>>> This program is free and open to the public. Register here.

As we collectively shift into a post-election reality, we are calling together our LP community to connect and discuss the impacts of this historic moment. We seek to provide fertile space for discussion, inspiration, reflection, and action, and to highlight the ways art and culture can help us build the future we want to see. Join us November 17 at 6:30 pm (EST) for a two-part program.

Hear from LP alumni artists Abby DobsonLaTasha N. Nevada DiggsKarina Aguilera SkvirskyJaime Sunwoo, and Katherine Toukhy, who created specially commissioned works exploring the complex legacy of women’s suffrage, a century after that struggle resulted in the ratification of the 19th amendment, granting some women the right to vote. In a conversation moderated by Amy Andrieux, Executive Director and Chief Curator of MoCADA, the artists will reflect on past and future political realities through the lens of their various artistic practices. Each of their works was commissioned in partnership with Park Avenue Armory for their monumental project 100 Years | 100 Women.

After the panel, we’ll be joined by Jennifer Epps-Addison of the Center for Popular Democracy for a presentation, followed by open discussion on our present political moment. We’ll make space to build coalitions for creative political action, learn about initiatives and projects happening within our communities, and more. LP alumni artists Tomie Arai, Jennifer Jones, Laura Bustillos Jáquez, and Ari Melenciano will facilitate group conversations.
