20 YEARS AND COUNTING

Living Legacy: 20 Years of the LP

The LP in the News!

Brooklyn-based cultural hub The Laundromat Project is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Since its founding in 2005, the LP has invested in more than 200 artists of color, whose work is deeply rooted in the community.

The Laundromat Project derives its name from its origins as a way to bring art and community engagement directly to laundromats, which were seen as de facto public spaces where people naturally gathered. The name reflects the idea of meeting people where they are and using art as a tool for community building.

Celebrating 20 Years

To celebrate The Laundromat Project’s twenty-year journey of sparking transformation through art and community, this documentary serves as a powerful reflection of The LP’s impact on artists, neighbors, and families, while also highlighting the broader cultural and world events that have shaped, and been shaped by, The LP’s work.
