Arts Education Programs & Curricula

Video produced by EdLab Media.
Works in Progress (WiP) focuses on community-centered art education through hands-on workshops and public programs at local laundromats and other community spaces. The focus of WiP is to make art education more readily available in our community— regardless of income, age, or background. We believe it is a basic human right to use our imaginations in the service of a better life.

Every summer, we offer a series of free laundromat-based drop-in art workshops, which have historically taken place in Harlem at The Laundry Room. This year, The Laundromat Project is excited to begin offering workshops in two new neighborhoods: Bedford-Stuyvesant and Hunts Point.

Every weekend from June through August, drop-in art workshops will take place at the following laundromat locations in each of our three anchor neighborhoods:

Bedford-StuyvesantSaturdays, 12-3 PM (June 8th through August 24th)
Fulton Street Laundry (1618 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11213)
Harlem: Sundays, 12-3 PM (June 9th through August 25th)
The Laundry Room (143 West 116th Street, New York, NY 10026)
Some workshops will be held at Studio Museum in Harlem (144 West 125th Street, New York, NY 10027). Please visit the "2013 WiP Calendar" button on the top right of this page for a more detailed schedule.
Hunts Point: Sundays, 12-3 PM (June 9th through August 25th)
Lucky's Laundromat (1325 Lafayette Ave., Bronx, NY 10474)

There will be no workshops July 4th weekend: July 6-7, 2013.

In addition to our laundromat-based workshops, we also offer a variety of workshops at street festivals and community-based organizations.
