Sasha Phyars-Burgess

Sasha Phyars-Burgess graduated from Bard College in 2010 with a BA in photography. Upon graduation she received the Tierney Fellowship for her Senior Project photography show and exhibited work at the New York Photo Festival. In the Fall of 2010, she began working for esteemed photographer Larry Fink as his studio manager. In 2011 she received the Best in Show Award at the Garrison Art Center and moved to Berlin where she showed work at the CK Gallery, and self-published and distributed a monthly zine. In 2012, she came back to the US before heading to Trinidad and Tobago to document the 2013 Carnival season. In early 2014, she was commissioned by the Easton/Phillipsburg YMCA to complete a project of Daily life at the Y.

StoryBlock was a continuation of The LP’s 2014 Create Change Fellows’ Field Day project in Hunts Point. Alison Kibbe and Sasha Phyars-Burgess created an oral history and visual community archive to celebrate the cultural richness of Kelly Street residents living in the Longwood section of the South Bronx.
