Nicole Tammelleo is a visual artist who has spent many years working in direct service as a social worker and connects this work to her artistic endeavors. She has received several grants and awards as well as participated in several exhibitions, but truly feels her artistic accomplishments cannot really be measured by those standards. She has co-created numerous community projects that do not really “fit” on a resume. One great accomplishment was a “Speak Out Against Violence” event she co-organized with a women’s empowerment group, with over 150 women attending. It was a space for women to express their experiences as survivors of violence through spoken word, poetry, song and making connections with each other that have lasted long after the event.
