Communications Intern

Position Description
The Laundromat Project is looking for a tech-proficient intern to support their online press and marketing strategies for their core programs: Create Change Public Artist Residency Program and Works in Progress. Create Change offers three New York-based artists of color the opportunity to realize a public art project in their local laundromat over a 6-month period while Works in Progress brings weekend art workshops to laundromats, festivals, and school classrooms throughout New York City.

Qualifications:
BA required, MA preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent editing skills
Strong attention to detail
Confidence navigating social-networking platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo, Youtube, etc)
Familiarity with web design programs is a plus, but not required
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to work well collaboratively and independently
Interest in information technology, art education, arts administration, contemporary art, communications, or related subject

Responsibilities
Projects will relate to supporting The Laundromat Project staff and consultants as they raise the organization’s online visibility. This includes utilizing current and new social media, adding new features and content to the website and drafting emails as part of the organization’s marketing campaign.

Commitment
For Fall internship (September - December): July 31
For Spring internship (January - May): November 31
For Summer internship (June - August): April 15

Program Intern

Position Description
The Laundromat Project is looking for interns to help support day-to-day operations for their core programs: Create Change Public Artist Residency Program and Works in Progress. Create Change offers five New York-based artists of color the opportunity to realize a public art project in their local laundromat over a 6-month period while Works in Progress brings weekend art workshops to Laundromats and festivals throughout New York City. This internship is a great opportunity for a candidate who is interested in or already has experience with non-profit arts management to build up their portfolio of projects.

Qualifications
BA required, MA preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent research and copy-editing skills
Has demonstrated experience working in arts education and/or production
Strong attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel required; proficiency in Photoshop and InDesign highly preferred
Ability to work well collaboratively and independently
Strong interest in contemporary arts, art education, arts administration

Responsibilities
Projects will relate to supporting The Laundromat Project staff and consultants as they implement the Works in Progress art workshop series. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteer involvement for Create Change and Works in Progress, supporting workshop production and aiding lesson plan writing. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, gathering content for blog updates and organizing resources for the public artists-in-residence.

Special Events Intern

Position Description
The Laundromat Project is looking for interns to support activities associated with organizing program-specific events and its annual benefit auction. Proceeds from the annual auction allow The LP to raise the quality of life for people whose incomes do not guarantee broad access to mainstream arts and cultural facilities. This mission is fulfilled year around through the organization’s two core programs: Create Change Public Artist Residency Program and Works in Progress. Create Change offers three New York-based artists of color the opportunity to realize a public art project in their local laundromat over a 6-month period while Works in Progress brings weekend art workshops to laundromats and festivals throughout New York City.

Qualifications
BA required, MA preferred.
Experience with special event coordination
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent people skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to problem solve
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, required. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign desirable
Familiarity working with database software
Ability to work well collaboratively and independently
Interest in arts administration, contemporary art, public relations, marketing or related subject
Ability to lift at least 25lbs

Responsibilities
Projects will relate to supporting The Laundromat Project staff and consultants with preparation for the annual art auction and program-specific events. Responsibilities will include activities such as corresponding with artists, assembling materials, making event-specific forms and materials and updating the organization’s website.
