Field Day 2017: Music As Healing with Uptown Vinyl Supreme
Join us for this Field Day 2017: Hunts Point/Longwood event:
Saturday, September 16, 2-4 PM
920 Kelly Street (Basement), Bronx, New York 10459
Participants will be guided through an interactive history lesson of vinyl and an open discussion about music that has helped in healing. Participants will then be led through a meditation using music from selected records. The meditation will utilize sonic sound waves to move any blocks or stagnation, and get energy flowing.
About the Artist:
Uptown Vinyl Supreme is a DJ collective conceived in the Summer of 2015 by friends and lovers of vinyl, Sunny Cheeba, Buddy, and Brujo Boogie. The premise was to create an outlet that allowed us to explore the vinyl records that we owned. The result was a series of all-vinyl jams in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx. It wasn’t long before the concept began to take on a life of its own and adapt across venues from the South Bronx to East Harlem and beyond. Now we’re set on taking our sound to more spaces and places with the intention of spreading unity and expression through records and dance.
In the age of smartphones and digital downloads Uptown Vinyl Supreme works to pay homage to the analog roots of music, party, and dance culture. Records have the power to uplift, inspire, and heal the people. Uptown Vinyl Supreme takes this responsibility seriously and continues to explore progressive ways in which this power can reach audiences all over the world, be it through dance gatherings, individual sessions, workshops or private functions.
