We’re excited to present free, fun art-making workshops at Macon Library in Bedford-Stuyvesant and the Studio Museum in Harlem!

Make a Holiday with Bedford-Stuyvesant artist Aisha Cousins

Macon Library (361 Lewis Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11233)

 

Aisha Cousins will lead a workshop for teens to explore the history of Kwanzaa and create storytelling and art activities to raise awareness about new Black cultural holidays, including Bed-Stuy’s own Brer Rabbit Day.

Holiday Card Collage with Harlem artist Sonia Louise Davis

The Studio Museum in Harlem (144 West 125th Street, New York, NY)

 

Inspired by the “Under Another Name” exhibition, participants will assemble paper mosaics from images of textured materials including wood, fabric, and more, to create holiday cards for loved ones.

 

Nov 16, 2–4 PM

Archives and Photo-Collage with Harlem artist Sonia Louise Davis

Inspired by the artwork on view in “Speaking of People,” this photo-based workshop will use archives as source material for our creative investigations. Participants will browse a selection of archival Ebony and Jet covers, images, stories, and advertisements to incorporate into collage pieces. Final compositions will be photographed with a smartphone and printed instantly!
