American Promise Screening

Oct 9, 2014, 7 PM

Please join us for this special screening of American Promise at the IFC Center. American Promise is an award-winning documentary that follows two middle-class black families as their sons navigate the ups and downs of perceptions, stereotypes, and bias in an elite private school. In the words of the film’s tagline, “Opportunity is just the first step.”

The Laundromat Project has partnered with American Promise to develop an arts-based curriculum using the film as a point of departure to examine perceptions of black male identity, stereotypes and bias, and education equity for black males.

We hope you’ll join us on the 21st! You’ll have an opportunity to meet the filmmakers, Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson, ask questions, and learn more about the curriculum we’ve developed in partnership with American Promise. (Can’t make it on the 21st? Be sure to catch another screening at the IFC!)
